Water Monitoring

South Sutter Water District is charged with supplying surface water on an annual basis to landowners.

Water Storage

Water Storage

Water allocations come from the Camp Far West Reservoir, and the water is delivered via unlined canals and natural waterways such as Yankee Slough, Ping Slough, Coon Creek, Bunkman Slough, Markham Ravine, Auburn Ravine, King Slough, and Pleasant Grove Creek. Water storage remains a top priority for the District, as the Camp Far West Reservoir can store up to 93,740 acre-feet  – which is used for irrigation purposes.

Water Delivery

Our staff maintains and monitors more than 126 miles of irrigation ditches and drainage canals across portions of Yuba, Placer and Sutter counties. In addition, our water tenders ensure we make acurate deliveries to our landowners and customers during the Spring and Summer months.

Power Generation

To help offset some operating expenses, the District in 1984 built a hydroelectric plant on Camp Far West Dam. The 6.8 MW facility generates power during the irrigation season that is sold to Silicon Valley Power via the Northern California Power Association.

Through generational surface water management and maintaining a sustainable groundwater supply, we are the foundation for our local agricultural community.
